Pelham Pilates is open

Open for business, of course. But also open to everyone.

If you think Pilates is only something for flexible young women, it’s time to think again, to be more open-minded.

Pilates is beneficial and accessible for us all. It doesn't matter what age we are, which sex we are, how much we weigh, how sporty or how much of a couch potato we are, or whether we are hyper flexible or as stiff as a board. Pilates is open to all of us.

Pilates will make sure we keep moving; it can be as challenging or as gentle as we want. The sheer range and variety of exercises means we constantly remain engaged. It’s as helpful for top athletes as it is for those who never exercise at all. It is an incredible tool in ageing better, feeling younger.

Pilates will open us up; physically and mentally. It helps us feel stronger, longer, leaner, fitter - and happier, more balanced and relaxed too.

Without going into too much deep philosophical stuff, Pilates does work on both the mind and the body. Quite simply, that is because we really have to focus while we are practicing - so we switch off from our everyday life, thoughts and problems and we open up to a calmer way of being.

Who we are?
who we are

Pelham Pilates is a small local business based in Furneux Pelham. Serving the Pelhams and the surrounding area, Pelham Pilates is a 15 minute drive from both Bishops Stortford and Buntingford.

It is run by Jessica Gridley. Jessica took up Pilates after she started experiencing some lower back issues; while the visits to the chiropractor helped, the improvement was short lived, so it was time to look for a different solution.

Not only did the Pilates sort the back problems out, but Jessica also found she loved it. Now, a Stott trained Pilates instructor in both mat and reformer, she is enthusiastic to open this up to others too.

As a keen horse rider, Jessica is only too aware of the benefits of Pilates for both horse and rider. The more balanced and supple the rider, the better the partnership is with the horse.

what are the benefits of Stott Pilates?

Based on the original method developed by Joseph Pilates, Stott is a more contemporary approach developed by a team of not just fitness professionals but also medically trained physical therapists. It is ideal to combat the stresses and strains modern life puts on our bodies - and our minds.

The benefits are many and, satisfyingly, open up to us very quickly. They range from core strength, increased flexibility, improvement in posture, more stability and balance, muscle tone, enhanced athletic performance, heightened body awareness, relief from back pain - and a more calm and balanced outlook. In short, the stuff we all want and need.
